Croix-Rousse and the silk-weavers’ slopes
The Croix-Rousse hill, once home to the canuts silk weavers, is today one of the most endearing districts of Lyon. The slopes are explored from square to square, in search of traboules, artist workshops and small neighbourhood bars. The daily boulevard market, lively and colourful, is perfect for sharing a coffee or a sandwich and putting the world to rights together.
Confluence and contemporary architecture
At the south of the Presqu’île, Confluence brings together, where the Rhône and Saône meet, colourful buildings by leading architects and the spectacular Musée des Confluences, a crystal of glass and metal. A walk together along the quays, a drink on a barge, then a film in an art-house cinema make for a very modern evening, far from any cliché.
Parks, opera and Festival of Lights
Vast, the Tête d’Or Park is Lyon’s lung: lake, rose garden, free zoo and lawns packed in the fine season. The opera, redesigned by Jean Nouvel, offers rooftop evenings in summer. Every 8 December, the Festival of Lights illuminates the whole city. On Lyad, members from the Rhône share their favourite exhibitions; it is up to you to find someone to applaud with.
